Refunds & cancellation.
1. The short version
- Cancel whenever you like, from Settings → Subscription. No email, no phone call, no retention script.
- Cancel within 14 days of subscribing and we refund you, less a proportionate amount for the days you had access.
- Cancel after 14 days and your subscription runs to the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund the unused part, but you keep everything until it ends.
- On a free trial, cancel before it ends and you are never charged at all.
- If we have got something wrong, or the Service has not worked, the statutory remedies below apply and none of the above limits them.
2. Your 14-day cancellation right
Because you subscribe online, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you 14 days from the day the contract is made to change your mind, without giving a reason.
When you subscribe, we ask you to confirm that you want your subscription to start straight away rather than waiting for those 14 days to pass. Almost everyone does — the point of subscribing is to use it. Asking for it to start early does not give up your right to cancel. What it means is that if you do cancel inside the 14 days, we keep a proportionate amount for the days you actually had access and refund the rest.
A worked example. You subscribe to Standard monthly at £9.99 and cancel on day 5. Five days of a 30-day month is one sixth, so we keep about £1.67 and refund about £8.32.
If you cancel in the 14 days before we have supplied anything at all, you get everything back.
2.1 How to cancel
The quickest route is Settings → Subscription in the app, which opens the billing portal. You can also simply tell us, in any clear statement — email support@obiter.sitewith your account email and the words “I cancel” and that is enough. You do not have to use a form, and you do not have to explain yourself.
To meet the deadline it is enough that you send your cancellation before the 14 days are up.
2.2 When you get the money
We refund within 14 days of being told you have cancelled, using the same payment method you paid with. There is no fee for a refund. Depending on your bank, it can take a few working days after that to appear.
2.3 Model cancellation form
You do not have to use this. It is here because the Regulations require us to provide it.
To: Obiter Technologies Ltd, 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ — support@obiter.site
I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the supply of the following service: Obiter subscription.
Ordered on: ____________________
Name: ____________________
Address: ____________________
Account email: ____________________
Date: ____________________
3. After the 14 days
Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period you have already paid for, and it does not delete your account — you drop to the free tier when the paid period ends, and your notes, files, flashcards and grades stay where they are.
We do not refund the unused part of a period that has already started. If you are on an annual plan and cancel in month two, you keep full access for the remaining ten months.
If your free-tier storage allowance is smaller than what you are using when a paid plan ends, we will ask you to remove files rather than delete anything ourselves.
4. Free trials
A free trial runs for the period stated when you start it. We tell you the date of your first payment before you begin, and we take no payment during the trial. Cancel any time before that date and you are not charged.
If the trial ends and the subscription starts, the 14-day right in section 2 runs from the day the paid contract begins.
5. If something has gone wrong
Everything above is about changing your mind. If the problem is that the Service itself has not been what it should be, different rules apply and they are stronger.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 we must supply the Service with reasonable care and skill. If we have not, you are entitled to have it put right, and if that is not possible or we do not do it within a reasonable time, to a price reduction — which can be the whole price. Digital content must also be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
These rights are in addition to the 14-day right, not instead of it, and nothing in our Terms or on this page takes them away. If you think this applies to you, email support@obiter.site and describe what happened. We would rather fix it than argue about it.
6. Payments we get wrong
If we charge you in error — a duplicate payment, a charge after you cancelled, the wrong plan — tell us and we refund it in full. That is not a goodwill gesture and it is not covered by anything on this page; it is simply money we were not entitled to.
7. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled a cancellation or refund, our complaints procedure sets out what to do and how long we take.
